How To Improve Your Performance & Achievements
Discover the 5 KEY skills that will revolutionize the way that you communicate and solve problems!

To solve problems at work, people need to have a common language and system. The Communication and Problem Solving (CPS) Model developed by Dr Charles Margerison provides an elegant and useful problem-solving tool, to enable colleagues and clients “to sing from the same sheet”, or “be on the same page”

It started as a result of discussions with engineers who wanted a system to more easily understand the ‘people’ side of business. They liked systems, and suggested it would be useful to have a model for communication. This led Dr Charles Margerison to look at what happens in meetings at work. He found some vital elements that are always there. He then identified the skills needed, to deal with these ever-present factors.

“For every problem at work, there are five major skills you can use”, he says. “The approach you take will determine how successful you are. For example, if one member of the team proposes one or more solutions, while another person wants to discuss the cause of the problem, then time will be wasted trying to go in two directions at once”.  Dr Margerison is a co-founder of Team Management Systems, and previously Professor of Management at the University of Cranfield School of Management.

This resource provides a powerful way of addressing issues and opportunities, both at work and in everyday life. The five key skills of enquiring, diagnosing, summarizing, proposing and coordinating, are those identified in this research. They have been used by many people, who achieved outstanding success in their careers.

The aim of this module is to introduce you to the Margerison Communication and Problem Solving (CPS) Model. The CPS Model focuses on the skills required to be effective at both the technical and people-management levels. It provides sharp-thinking problem solving skills to inspire every learner, to produce great outcomes, and secure success within a framework that is accessible and easy to use.
