Proactive Thinking – Welcome & Introduction

This month, we are pleased to share our PROACTIVE THINKING support module.

A proactive thinking approach to problem solving, will achieve undoubtedly better results, rather than focussing on the traditional critical thinking aspect. This positive and proactive approach, involves taking information and converting it into effective applications. It means achieving results, rather than just passing judgement on other people’s efforts.

For example, flooding is a problem in many areas of the world. Increasingly, people are being educated to be proactive, rather than just reactive to floods. Most affected areas have now introduced ‘Proactive Flood and Drought Management’ systems. This is a great example of necessity being the mother of invention, and has equipped communities globally with a selection of applied strategies from lessons learned.

Similarly, scientific research into medicines has become more proactive than reactive. A visionary, Thomas Edison once said, “The doctor of the future will give no medication, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease”. That is defining proactivity in a nutshell!

Understanding both the scientific rational approach and the emotional intuitive approach, proactive thinking assists in converting opinion into facts and facts into opinions. However, most of all, it enables the resolution of problems that require decisions and implementation.

The Margerison Communication and Problem Solving Resource, provides a way of speeding up and sharpening business thinking between people at work. It helps you to know what to look for when working with clients and colleagues. Being able to think proactively will improve your ability to discover what is true, and also to convey to others what you know. Using the CPS Model guides us in developing these skills that are essential for understanding and judgement.
