This month, we are pleased to share our STRATEGY support module.

Working with colleagues to establish and maintain the mission and purpose of an organization, is key to achieving success for all involved. This involves having a strategic plan. Strategies enable the charting of directions, at both the personal and organizational levels, and ensure that objectives are achieved in effective and efficient ways.

Those who succeed in business, politics and life in general, usually have well thought out strategies that guide their decisions. William Boeing for example, saw one of the early aeroplanes fly in 1908. He was inspired and convinced that aviation would become a major industry. He changed his focus from managing the family lumber business, to create the Boeing Aircraft Company. He developed the strategic plans that have made that organization into a worldwide leader.

We all develop strategies. They are the thought frameworks that guide our pathways to what we want to achieve. For example, career strategies involve having different jobs to gain experience. Organizations also need strategies. These can be strategies for growth and gaining more market share, or take over strategies to develop through acquisition.

All strategies are governed by communication and problem solving concepts. Once you know these and focus on their meaning and implication, they can be of major benefit in your work. There are many strategic factors to consider in formulating a strategic plan, which are related to moving from problems to solutions and from discussions to decisions.

In this module we will be looking at how we can use the Communication and Problem Solving Resource as a guide to put a plan into place, in order to achieve objectives through clear strategic thinking.
