His work on kidney disease has resulted in him being considered the ‘father of nephrology’. ‘Bright’s disease’ has also been named in his honour. He studied many other bodily functions and diseases including epilepsy, malaria and jaundice and became internationally acclaimed as a teacher, an author and a physician.
